If you have kids and teach them the Bible, inevitably you will go through several children's Bibles. Some are good and some aren't that great, whether it be the content, illustrations or the quality. However, Planet 316 and WorthyKids/Ideals have put out the Planet 316 Story Bible and the companion Planet 316 Story Bible App and I was given the opportunity to review it and its a definite winner in my book!
First of all the Bible is extremely great quality! Its hardbound (which I'm in love with) and the cover and pages are heavy duty. Its about 8 inches x 6 inches and 1 1/2 inches thick so its not too big to comfortably carry with them places or so small that the words are tiny. The pages are gorgeous, full color illustrations and the stories are anywhere from 2-8 pages each so you can easily find a story that fits your listeners attention span. Actually, the pages are mostly picture with to the point wordage so it does help keep the younger ones paying better attention than loads of words!
There are more than 100 Bible stories in it and we've read quite a few so far. In fact we used it as our Bible reading in the mornings for several weeks. Some of the ones we've read already are the Creation Story (I always check that one out first!), Adam, the Serpent, A Wife for Isaac, Joseph and his coat of many colors, Joseph explains dreams, Joseph saves his family, David & Goliath, Job, Jonah & the Big Fish & about 10 stories from the New Testament leading up to the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus. These were all very understandable for children and prompted many discussions!
This Bible also comes with a downloadable free app which makes the stories seem alive! We installed it on our "cheap" android phones and while we did use it some it honestly wasn't too convenient for us. However, if you had a larger phone or tablet that you could use with it I could see that it would have been super neat! Our phones just have a tiny screen and it was a little difficult to make that work :( This would be really cool if you were using it in a Sunday school setting, Children's church, ect... For me, I was trying to hold a baby, and read to a toddler & 7 year old at the same time as holding a phone scanning a page...Yeah, you see where that is going, lol. I did love the interactive characters (you tapped them and they talked, moved ect...) and I loved the music they set the stories to.
Overall, though I am really pleased with this Bible! I love how its put together and the stories it contains! I'm hoping to get a new Android tablet soon and I'll be putting this app on it and I'm sure there will be a big difference with that! I've also heard from others that it works super well on I-phones.
I hope you'll check out the other reviews below! Thanks for reading! What's your favorite story Bible?
